For Groceries I use the Reminders app on iPhone and Mac. I just create a new reminders list called "Groceries" and click the share button. Enter my Wife's Apple ID, and now she and I share the groceries list.

For item #1, if you have a Windows Media Center, just download a Codec Pack. That will install all the necessary codecs for nearly every type of known media file. I prefer the K-Lite Codec pack, but there are others.
